Supporting Cancer Research and Patients in Central Texas
Tradition
runs deep in Central Texas, forming a bedrock of values for all who live here.
In 1999, a concerned group of Central Texans drew on two traditions -- ranching
and community -- to form Cattlemen for Cancer Research. This coalition of
volunteers, organizations and businesses has created a unique opportunity for
Texans in the agriculture-livestock industry to become personally involved in
improving cancer care by supporting leading-edge cancer research conducted close
to home. With a heart for
their community, friends formed the Cattlemen for Cancer Research Committee in
1999 to fight cancer in their own backyard. The results have been amazing. In
seven years, Cattlemen for Cancer Research has raised more than $675,000 to fund
programs of M. D. Anderson’s Michale E. Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine
and Research.
Currently Sponsored Research
In addition to
providing research funding, a separate dedicated fund aids patients and their
families from Williamson, Travis, Lee, Bastrop and Hays counties who may need
financial assistance with lodging, meals and similar services while staying in
Houston to receive care. In the spirit of neighbor helping neighbor, the
committee invites you to join in the fight against cancer by supporting the
Cattlemen for Cancer Research Auction.
